Abstract: Read alouds support all areas of literacy development, exposing students to new words and grammar, increasing students’ interest in reading and writing, and expanding skills like phonological awareness.  But read alouds also strengthen students’ vocabulary acquisition, emotional intelligence, teacher-student relationships, engagement, and cultural awareness.  This presentation will focus on the use of read alouds in the primary classroom at YCIS and how they can strengthen the learners understanding of big concepts and enduring understandings.
