Abstract: Shifting from a more teacher-directed learning focus approach focusing on a structured thematic approach to teaching in an ECE Emergent Curriculum has presented many challenges and beautiful moments for learning for both children and teachers. I have questioned previous and current approaches, reflected on my past and current teaching and learning outcomes, and taken baby steps towards fully emerging in the YCIS ECE approach. I have had days where I felt victorious as I followed the curriculum and observed the development of the children in my class. Yet, some days, I have gone back to contemplate how I had fallen prey to my previous way of thinking; I then adjusted and prepared myself for another day of continuous learning.
“The most valuable resource that all teachers have is each other. Without collaboration, our growth is limited by our perspectives.” Robert John Meehan
In this presentation, I will share my high and low moments. The steps I have taken to adjust to the Emergent Curriculum. How I have interpreted the support I receive so I can learn and adapt whilst still maintaining my unique way of making an impact in Education.

Robert John Meehan
