Theme: What is an authentic observation? How do we remove our own filters and biases so that we can objectively observe children while they are actively playing and exploring, a question that comes up time and again. We will practise our observational skills before moving on to what is a 'good' observation. How do we use observations after reflecting with our co-teachers to respond to both individual and groups of children. This will be an interactive workshop with plenty of opportunity for shared thinking and understanding.
60 minutes
Abstract: Participants will know the difference between an observation and a reflection after practising with hands-on examples. They will know better the components of observational skills and how to record those. With some good examples of observations and reflections, they will better understand how to respond to their observations - the first step in the Observation Reflect and Respond (ORR) inquiry cycle in creating emergent curriculum in the ECE.
