Beyond the Hype: Meaningful AI Integration in Project-Based Learning
Workshop Overview: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is allegedly revolutionising education by enabling personalised learning and fostering innovative methodologies like Project-Based Learning (PBL). However, integrating AI presents challenges that educators must navigate. This workshop invites educators to explore the thoughtful incorporation of AI tools in PBL settings. We will investigate how these advancements are potentially redefining the future of teaching and learning, balancing inspiration with practical application.
Our Journey: We will commence by examining the experiences of leading institutions such as High Tech High, One Stone, and Two-Hour Learning. These schools exemplify successful AI and PBL integration, demonstrating how AI can personalise education, enhance student engagement, and promote critical thinking. While celebrating their achievements, we will also address the challenges encountered, including prompt obstacles, the potential de-skilling of teachers, and the complexities of embedding AI into educational frameworks.
Hands-On Discovery: Participants will be introduced to AI-driven personalised learning platforms tailored for PBL environments. These platforms leverage algorithms to customise curriculum planning and learning pathways based on contextual needs. A pivotal component of this session will involve a collaborative activity where attendees will design a PBL unit using AI tools. This exercise will illustrate how AI can support educators in creating projects that align with curriculum objectives and cater to diverse learner needs.
Collaborative Reflection: In the final segment, we will engage in an open discussion to reflect on the practical applications of AI in educational settings. Participants will share insights on effective strategies, potential pitfalls, and best practices, fostering a collective understanding of the dos and don’ts when implementing AI in PBL.
What You’ll Gain: By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
Understand Integration Strategies: Gain insights into how leading schools successfully incorporate AI to enhance PBL and personalised learning.
Practical Experience: Experiment with AI-driven tools and acquire hands-on experience in designing PBL units supported by AI.
Reflective Insights: Engage in meaningful reflection on the pedagogical and practical implications of AI in education, fostering informed decision-making.
Presentation Format: This interactive workshop will be conducted in English and will feature live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and group discussions to ensure an engaging and collaborative learning experience.
