This session focuses on Designing AI-Enhanced Lesson Plans that leverage research-backed instructional design principles. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to effectively integrate AI tools into your lesson planning process, ensuring your units are grounded in solid educational research.
Workshop Goals:
Understand how to incorporate evidence-based principles from John Hattie’s research into lesson design using AI.
Explore the capabilities of AI tools to enhance instructional strategies.
Design or refine an upcoming unit utilizing AI technology
Session Content:
I will introduce the concept of the Hattiebot, a powerful tool that combines Hattie’s extensive research with the capabilities of large language models (LLMs). This innovative prompt will guide you through eight evidence-based steps for lesson design, ensuring that your plans are not only creative but also rooted in proven methodologies.
Activities:
Participants will engage in a hands-on activity where they will either design a new lesson plan or enhance an existing unit.
You will have the opportunity to work with AI tools such as poe.com (please sign up for a free account before the session), Claude, or any other chatbot that supports PDF attachments. This practical experience will enable you to see the benefits of AI in real-time lesson planning.
By the end of the session, you will leave with a clear understanding of how to use AI to create impactful lesson plans that are informed by research.
