About the Workshop:
The PD session centers on the thesis that metacognition is all about cultivating postures in the classroom, as opposed to simply having students engage in metacognitive activities. Achieving metacognition is more about nurturing the kind of learner that uses metacognition as a skill through the habituation of classroom routines, cultural artifacts, and high-quality student-teacher interaction. The PD aims to bring research on metacognition, as well as principles and strategies on metacognition, through the lens of mathematics and philosophy teaching, to equip teachers to approach metacognition in a refreshingly familiar way. In the end, it aims to give tangible, actionable steps to help students use metacognition to make the implicit explicit and to deepen learning.
