Abstract: Creating activities within a lesson, where students compete in groups or individually, is an age old favourite go-to task. Numerous literature and articles have been written to address the pros and cons to using competitions in the classroom. Over time, how we view competitions are changing as the objectives of competitions are now seen as friendly. In this workshop, we will share how we have used forms of competitions to engage learners, discuss to what extent is an activity a game versus a competition, and explore competition/game platforms that we can incorporate into our units.
