Abstract: This workshop offers a structured approach for teachers to facilitate student-led group projects. The session is designed to provide participants with a methodical way to identify topics of interest, engage in focused discussions, and develop research questions that could lead to further inquiry and action. 

Throughout the workshop, you will work both individually and collaboratively to engage in a small group project. The workshop will introduce the MISO (Media, Interview, Survey, Observation) method as a framework for conducting action research, encouraging students to think beyond traditional internet searches and consider diverse sources of information and methods of inquiry. Participants will categorize their questions within this framework and contemplate the best approaches to finding answers.

 

By the end of the session, you will have gained an understanding of how to apply different research strategies with students to gather information. This workshop aims to be a useful learning experience for those interested in integrating research into their studies or community service projects.
