Abstract: This presentation, by using the unit “An ancient City - Lijiang” under the theme of “Social Norms and Culture” as an example, will demonstrate how the new curriculum of Chinese Studies has been developed and taught in Year 5 at YCIS Beijing. In this unit, students will not only be able to learn about the culture of Lijiang, but will also gain insight into the concept of culture and understanding of the core question “How do we shape our own identity?” Through using vocabulary cards, showing how this unit is connected to social science and comparing Chinese and Western cultures, students will be able to master the knowledge, skills and language during the learning process.
